Bournemouth's original backpacker hostel for foreign visitors, cyclists, ramblers & groups.
Bournemouth Backpackers Hostel has been trading since March 1999. We are family owned and not part of a large corporate chain. We have a full fire certificate, appropriate insurance and planning permission from Bournemouth Borough Council to operate as a hostel.
We have been inspected, listed and recommended by a number of travel publications over the years. We have consequently been included in: Lonely Planet Guides, Rough Guides, Let's Go, Backpax Magazine, Guide Routard, Backpackers Ultimate Guide, WOW backpacking etc..
We have had literally thousands of happy guests since we opened. Many people are travelling by themselves from overseas and soon become part of our family of backpackers and working holidaymakers. We take great care to ensure the safety and security of our guests. To ensure this we only allow people to stay if they are able to show us official identification in person when they check-in.
In the past the hostel had much longer opening hours, but this was sadly uneconomic as Bournemouth is very seasonal and not a traditional backpacker destination. To keep the hostel going we have had to greatly reduce our reception hours, which means that you have to organise your arrival carefully. Once you have checked-in, benefitted from some of the lowest prices in the U.K. and experienced the friendly atmosphere, we're sure you'll agree it was well worth it!
We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. All our energy is supplied via a green tariff and a significant proportion is generated from renewables. We recycle approximately 40% of our waste by volume, use low energy lighting almost everywhere and promote sustainable access to the hostel. We provide public transport, cycling and walking information to our guests to reduce their need to travel by car.
"We hopped off the bus from Salisbury with no idea where in the city we were, where we were going and where we were sleeping. We finally found this place and it must have been fate cause we got the absolute last three beds. This is a great place and it's a shame that we can't stay longer."
"Very quiet place, very friendly place, close from everywhere (beach, town, bus station, supermarket...), nice people. To sum up very nice place! Oups, I forgot to say the most important thing, it is one of the cheapest place to sleep that I have found in this part of the country!"
"So lucky to find this place. thanks very much - such a pretty room, friendly and thoughtful host. I will let people know."
"I never thought I will ever stay in a backpackers place, but I did for six nights! It was very nice and I'll come back again."
